Formula One was in Canada for Round Ten of this years championship and it was the Mercedes of George Russell who was on pole who took the chequered flag around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in what was a dominant performance from the British driver. Verstappen managed second place in what will be a boost to his title hopes after his disastrous Spanish Grand Prix, as McLaren drop points to the reigning World Champion and it's rookie Kimi Antonelli who finishes third for his first podium in Formula One as he becomes the third youngest podium sitter behind Verstappen and Stroll.
Pole sitter George Russell was clear heading into turn one with Max Verstappen in second and Kimi Antonelli into third getting ahead of Oscar Piastri. Meanwhile further down the grid Nico Hulkenberg got up into ninth after a good start from the Sauber.
After fourteen laps George Russell decides to pit from the lead. Giving Antonelli the lead of this race ahead of Piastri in second and Lewis Hamilton in third. Russell rejoins in seventh. Max Verstappen pitted a lap earlier from second and is running in ninth.
A lap later on lap fifteen Antonelli pitted from the lead. Oscar Piastri in the McLaren now leads from Hamilton and Lando Norris in third.
Then on lap seventeen it was Piastri who pits from the lead and comes back out in seventh behind the Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli.
The first retirement came on lap forty nine when the Williams of Alex Albon pulls off to the side and is out of the race.
The second retirement came just seven laps later on lap fifty six when the Racing Bull of Liam Lawson is called to box to retire the car.
Then the drama really kicks off just three laps from the end on lap sixty seven when Norris looks to make the move on teammate Piastri down the start finish straight but in a move similar to that of Button and Hamilton in Montreal in 2011, however this time McLaren on the grass doesn't finish the race. With Norris' McLaren left on the side of the track the race finished under the Safety Car bringing a strategic race to an end in the calmest way a grand prix can finish.
The next race is the Austrian Grand Prix.
