Formula One arrived in Miami for the sixth round of this years Championship. A race which we will become accustomed to as announced Formula One will be racing in Miami until at least 2041. It was Championship leader Oscar Piastri who produced yet another masterclass to win his third race in a row the first McLaren driver to do so since Mika Hakkinen. It was closest rival and teammate Lando Norris who finished second but he did win the Sprint Race on Saturday with George Russell once again on the podium for Mercedes.
It was the Red Bull of Max Verstappen who got away quicker but is a little wide into turn one as he goes side by side with the McLaren of Lando Norris who then goes wide on the exit of turn one who dropped down several positions after going wide after what looks like Verstappen pushed him wide and forced him off track. Kimi Antonelli in the Mercedes and Sprint Race Pole Sitter is into second and Piastri third. Then its George Russell, Alex Albon and Norris down in sixth.
Jack Doohan got a puncture and was going slowly after contact with Liam Lawson in turn one. The Australian becomes the first retirement of the race.
The slow Alpine brings out the VSC on lap two as Doohan has stopped on the side of the track. Which lasts just one lap.
Just fourteen laps in and Piastri is on the back of Verstappen as he pushes hard for the lead of the race and eventually after a handful of laps getting very close to an overtake on the Red Bull the Australian driver gets past the Red Bull at turn one as he goes wide and Piastri will now try to run away with this lead.
Then just a few laps later on lap seventeen it was the second McLaren of Norris who then passes Verstappen for second and both go off the track. But Verstappen gets back past just a few corners later it seemed like he was told to give the position back as he didn’t fight the pass.
With normal service resumed per say on the very next lap, Norris gets back past the Red Bull and into second place. Just the eight seconds behind race leader Piastri.
The second retirement came as we hit twenty eight laps as the Haas of Ollie Bearman is blowing smoke and is slowing down and is out of this race.
This causes the second VSC deployed and Bearman has stopped on the side of the track. Piastri, Norris and Russell all get a free stop under the VSC and Russell has jumped Verstappen in the process for third place. We get racing again on lap thirty.
The Sauber of rookie Gabriel Bortoleto only made it to lap thirty two before being forced to retire the car.
The fourth and final retirement came on lap thirty eight when Liam Lawson was forced to retire his Racing Bull.
The next race is the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
