PEREZ WINS THE MONACO GRAND PRIX

In the 79th Monaco Grand Prix - which began with lengthy delays due to the rain - the race which produced everything got underway after an hour of sitting around. Surely we cant lose Monaco from the Formula One calendar.

After the lengthy delays to this race - the cars were led out the pit lane by the Safety Car for what was the start of the race still in tricky conditions - Nicholas Latifi (Williams) and Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) both make contact with the barriers. Stroll gets himself a puncture and is forced to pit.

The race didn't officially start until lap three with a rolling start - Leclerc (Ferrari) leads into turn one with Sainz (Ferrari) in second and Perez (Red Bull) in third.

It wasn't until lap 16 when Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) was the first of the top ten to pit for the intermediate tyres - Hamilton pits from eighth and comes back out in ninth behind Ocon (Alpine).

On the very next lap (17) Perez pits from third and comes back out in fifth behind Norris (McLaren) and just ahead of Russell (Mercedes).

Then on lap 18 Leclerc pits from the lead and Verstappen pits from third - Sainz takes the lead of the race with Perez chasing him in second with Leclerc back out in third and Verstappen out in fourth.

By lap 21 Ferrari decide to pit Sainz from the lead for dry tyres as well as Leclerc who comes in as well for dry tyres as Ferrari double stack. Perez now leads this race from Verstappen and Sainz in third, Leclerc has come out in fifth behind Norris.

On the very next lap (22) Red Bull do the same by pitting Perez and Verstappen who come in for a double stack for the dry tyres - Perez has kept the lead of this race due to his stint on the intermediates - Sainz is into second and Verstappen in third and is out in front of Leclerc in fourth.

On lap 27 there is a massive crash for Schumacher in the Swimming Pool section as he goes into the armco and the back of the car detaches - causing a full Safety Car. On lap 30 the race is red flagged.

After doing a formation lap and letting the lapped cars go past the race resumes with a rolling start from lap 33 - no position changes from the restart. And Perez controls his tyres perfectly to stay ahead of Sainz who looked quicker for much of the final few minutes fo the race.

The next race is the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
