VERSTAPPEN WINS CHAOTIC BRAZILIAN RACE

With both titles decided Brazil was always set to be an entertaining race, but I don't think anyone could have predicted quite how amazing the penultimate race of the 2019 season could have been. Max Verstappen took victory after a commanding start and see's it as redemption for last years collision with Ocon.

With a short run into turn one it can be important to get a good start and that is exactly what Verstappen and Vettel got however Hamilton wasn't ready to take a back seat after securing his sixth World Title and managed a fantastic move around the outside of Vettel into the first turn. As the drivers headed down the hill into turn three Verstappen led Hamilton to Vettel, then Bottas with Albon and Gasly not far behind.

Later on into the first lap we saw the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc fight his way back up the field from 14th place (after dealing with an engine penalty on Saturday) passing Ricciardo and Norris.

Eight laps in Ricciardo then makes a late braking move on the HAAS of Kevin Magnussen causing the HAAS to go off track and dealing himself (Ricciardo) some front wing damage in the process. Ricciardo was later then given a five second time penalty.

With 21 laps gone the battle of the pit stops began. Hamilton came in first for the soft tyres as Mercedes tried the undercut. One lap later Verstappen makes his stop and almost ends up in the wall after Williams released Kubica far too early. Despite this mishap in the pit lane it took Max just one lap to then pass Hamilton into the first turn on lap 23.

With just 19 laps left in the race Valtteri Bottas was forced to retire his Mercedes with an engine failure. This is Bottas' first DNF since the German Grand Prix. This caused the full safety car to be released bunching up the field and giving the fans a really exciting finish to this race. Seven laps under the Safety Car later the drivers are released and Verstappen put the power down and passed Hamilton with ease.

On lap 66 the Ferrari's make contact giving Leclerc a puncture on his front right tyre and leaving Vettel with a similar issue on his rear left tyre - meaning both Ferrari's were classified but move on into the final race weekend without having gained any points.

And three four laps later with one lap remaining Hamilton attempts a pass of Alex Albon who was racing to claim his first F1 podium catches the front wing of Hamilton's Mercedes and is spun round, causing him to drop down the field.

Coming into the final corner on the final lap Verstappen had already crossed the line for the victory and the 25 points and it was a fight to the line between Hamilton and Gasly, with the Toro Rosso coming out on top to finish second. This is Gasly's maiden Formula One podium. It was later released after the race that Hamilton had received a penalty for the collision with Albon giving Carlos Sainz his maiden podium and McLaren their first podium since Brazil 2012.

Obrigado Interlagos.

The next race is the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
