BOTTAS TAKES VICTORY IN AUSTRALIA

The 2019 season got off to a cracking start as Bottas takes his fifth career victory in what he described as "best race ever". Bottas is also the first ever formula 1 driver to score 26 points for a race victory after taking fastest lap towards the tail end of the race with the new fastest lap rule was introduced for the season.

It was a tense start to the race as everyone was eager to see how the drivers would deal with the situation.

It was all going well for home boy Daniel Ricciardo in his brand new Renault before taking to the grass to give Perez in the Racing Point car enough space heading into the first corner when going over a bump in the pit lane exit the new larger front wing caught a dip and was ripped from his car (Ricciardo later retired from the race).

Another car that retired was the McLaren of Carlos Sainz when at around lap ten when his McLaren lost power.

It was a near perfect day for the Mercedes team, but the same cant be said for the Ferrari's as they finished in 4th (Vettel) and 5th (Leclerc) respectively - but this shows what we hear from testing is never true and new team principle Lucia Binotto will have his work cut out come the second race in Bahrain.

It is said that the driver that wins the opening race of the season is more often than not the driver that will go on and win the Drivers Championship - could this be Bottas' year where another driver finally gets the better of Lewis Hamilton, of course Nico Rosberg back in 2016 was the last driver that is teammates with Lewis to beat him to a title.
